When to go

September–February · Flooding tide in the estuary; two hours either side of high water on beaches

Youghal estuary is one of the most productive flatfish marks in East Cork, with specimen flounder in autumn and winter. The open beaches to the south produce painted ray and dogfish after dark from September. Codling arrive in November. Bass are present in the estuary from summer through autumn on lures and sandeel baits.
