Bass Fishing Regulations
Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) is separately and tightly regulated under EU and Irish bye-laws. Rules change yearly β anglers MUST check IFI's current regulations page before keeping any bass.
Applies to: Bass
Bass regulations in Ireland are governed by a combination of EU Common Fisheries Policy measures and Irish national bye-laws administered by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI). Because these rules are reviewed and updated regularly β sometimes changing mid-season β anglers cannot rely on information from previous years or third-party sources such as this guide.
Do not assume last yearβs rules still apply. Bag limits, minimum landing sizes, and open or closed seasons for bass are all subject to change at short notice. Any specific figures stated here would risk being outdated by the time you read them.
Before every fishing trip where you intend to target or retain bass, you must check the current regulations directly on the IFI website:

Keeping an undersized bass, retaining bass outside a permitted season, or exceeding a bag limit can result in prosecution under Irish fisheries legislation. Penalties may include fines and forfeiture of equipment. Catch-and-release is widely encouraged by conservation bodies and is often the safest approach when regulations are unclear.
